Poems for the Solstice

Poems for the Solstice

06.21.22

Written by Rosie Llewellyn

The Summer Solstice, celebrated annually on June 21st, is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. As the sun reaches its highest point in the sky, a shift in season is sparked with a grand return to a leisurely life outdoors. We welcome the water and fire elements as hotter days, cooler dips, mesmerizing sunsets, and a full roster of thrilling activities awaits us. This is a beneficial time to nourish your light within, feel the hope of the world illuminated, and trust your journey around the sun as we embrace the shimmery essence of divine solar energy.

1.

Rise for the beauty

Waking to a new season

Where glow beams love to linger

When sunshine goes home to horizon

She paints the evening sky

– Luminous

2.

Solstice, swoons, and swirls

Tell us again how early summer lands in late June

With bird songs and wind breeze

Finding relief under the old oak tree

A hammock sways in the distance

The sound of a classic book page turned

The refreshing slurp of a twenty-five cent lemonade

And laughter, as the light of the world

– Under the Oak Tree

3.

The showers of April brought the flowers of May

Now June bugs fly through our windows

As days stretch further into night

Fans twirl to keep the house breathing

And still – the ceiling could be stars

I’ll see you outside

– Nature is a Dream

4.

Spring drips into Summer

A bright and shimmery affair

From lush to thrive

As seen through your eyes

A return to the way

That honors the light within

– Sunscape

5.

Your body is a light source

Spinning through time and space

Where do you feel yourself illuminated

In this season, and the next

Not to be forgotten

Not to be diminished

Ever so to be embodied

The greatest starseed that ever shined

– The Divine in Me

6.

When you hear the Ancients calling

From the same sun that shines on you

Scoop a handful of earth and sprinkle it

– In Gratitude

7.

We can’t let the lakes dry up now

They have too many memories

Of the light within them

Is that why when you jump in

You emerge renewed?

– Emerge

8.

It was the lace of tired boots and a pack filled light

An old torn road map and a call to a friend

Quick stops at local eateries while racing to return outside

Summer had a hold on us

We couldn’t let go of its warm embrace

Eyes stretched to the sky

Beams down to the heart

The path was bright ahead

Deep into the night

– Everlasting Summer

9.

If you could trace the sun

Eventually

You’d circle back to your own heart

– As Above so Within

10.

Promise me

You will remember

The nature of your being

Everytime

The sun peaks up

And you catch a glimpse

There are only so many breaths in a lifetime

How many will you take

Remembering?

– Promise
